                            Probably written in the first quarter of the nineteenth century,
                            as <name type="person" role="owner" key="JacGri001">Grimm</name>'s marginalia are in Kurrent - a
                            script he stopped using between <date from="1821" to="1824">1821 and
                                1824</date>. The manuscript is a copy of Biörner's "Nordiska kämpa
                            dater" (Stockholm, 1737), and the brothers Grimm borrowed the edition
                            from the University Library of Göttingen between <date from="1809" to="1810">1809 and 1810</date>, when they also had a handwritten
                            copy made of it. 
                            The
                            handwritten copy consists most likely of the manuscripts <ref>MS Germ qu.
                                935</ref> and MS Germ qu. 396 (see a letter dated 1811 to Benecke,
                            printed in: Briefe der Brüder Grimm an Georg Friedrich Benecke aus den
                            Jahren 1808-1829, ed. by Wilhelm Müller, Göttingen, 1889, p.
                            28). Gottzmann states that Wilhelm Grimm borrowed Biörner's edition no later than <date notAfter="1807">1807</date>, see Gottzmann, Die
                            altnordischen Studien und Publikationen von Wilhelm und Jacob Grimm. in:
                            Brüder Grimm Gedenken 7, ed. Ludwig Denecke (Marburg, 1987) p. 67.</origin>
                        <provenance><p>The brothers <name type="person" role="owner" key="JacGri001">Jacob</name> and <name type="person" role="owner" key="WilGri001">Wilhelm Grimm</name> were owners of the manuscript.
                            How and when it came into their possession is not known, but they were most likely the commissioners
                            of it. In <date when="1865">1865</date>, two years after the death of
                            Jacob Grimm in <date when="1863">1863</date>, the German government bought his library and gave all
                            the manuscripts to the Königliche Bibliothek, now Deutsche
                            Staatsbibliothek - Preußischer Kulturbesitz.</p>
