CodexPaperi, 215, i192mm x 155mmCrown watermark visible on fol. 127. The manuscript appears to be composite and likely contains multiple other watermaks.Later foliation: Foliated in pencil in the lower corner of every tenth recto leaf and at the end of each item. Fol. 89 misnumbered as 90, so subsequent foliation up to 120 is off by one. Correct foliation resumes on fol. 127.Average: The first 25 leaves are heavily worn and have been restored more than once. Some of the repairs contain manuscript waste (e.g. fol. 127). A piece of fol. 214 has been excised and covered with a pasteover containing a fragment of a letter dated 1732 in Fagradal. On the recto "Finis libri" has been added, and the verso reads: "Christian i Vigri a bókina".170mm x 135mmUnknownUnknownMajor
Info: Written in multiple hands.
Low
  • Initial (flourished): The book opens with a 7-line, partially colored initial.
Medium
  • The letter in the front flyleaf is dated 15 June 1789 in Gardstódum (Garðsstaðir in the West Fjords?) with the autograph of a certain Jón Sigurdsson. The front and rear pastedowns and flyleaves bear several autographs, some of which are only partially legible. A thanksgiving verse has been written on fol. 215v.
Moderately decorated (contemporary)
Bound in contemporary full calf with blind-tooled floriated ornaments. The initials BBS (?) (possibly Björn Bjarnarson, whose autograph appears on fol. 215v) have been pressed into the center of the front cover. There is evidence of earlier book clasps (holes, discoloration) on the rear cover, but they have not survived. The flyleaves and pastedowns contain manuscript waste bearing fragments of private letters.
