Folios from 1r to 13r contain marginalia written by Jacob Grimm. The marginalia are mainly in German. They indicate places in the text, give explanations of difficult words and possible readings. Personal names and place names are underlined; also characters appearing without a proper name. This is different from the italics of the original which only emphasize some proper names. The underlining is done in parts written by hand 1 and 2, but is omitted in the last section written by hand 3, 23v - 47r(p. 46 top - 93 bottom). This indicates that the user was mainly interested in the story up to Fróða þáttr, e.g.
