CodexPaperi, 222, i330mm x 210mmFoliated: Foliated in dark ink in top right corners of recto pages. Incorrect foliation on fols. 210r-221r crossed out.Poor: The manuscript has suffered much damage. Fol. 22 must have been lost and replaced before Árni Magnússon acquired the manuscript. The subsequent 13 leaves, fols. 23-35, have lost varying amounts of text on account of damage to the margins; none of these leaves have an original inner margin intact. The remaining leaves all show some sign of decay, but only on fol. 150 is there damage to the text. Some letters at the beginning and end of lines have been obliterated during restoration at Birgitte Dall's conservation workshop in 1963-66. There is a lacuna after fol. 159, and fol. 209 is an addition from the seventeenth century. The bottom half of the blank fol. 84 is cut away.245mm x 105mmOn f. 213 the watermark is visible: a horn hanging on a loop.Jón ErlendssonSemihybridaMajor
Info: The bulk of the manuscript is written by Jón Erlendsson except for the lacunae that have been filled out in later hands. Jón Erlendsson, who was the vicar at Villingaholt not far from Skálholt, copied manuscripts from bishop Brynjólfur Sveinsson.

  • Here and there Jón Erlendsson added a comment in the margins, e.g. fol. 83v: "Her er enn mikitt skard og skalli j Sógvnne." and fol. 136v: "Hier giet eg ecke leseð kalffskinna skridduna sókumm sorta. enn Bær.jall missti hofvded j þeßu einVijgi".
  • On fol. 84v a note has been added and later crossed out: "Þessa Søgu book hef eg vnder skrifadur feingid Erlegum manne til fullkomlegrar eignar gijsla ärnasine Enn þo er hun enn nu o betulud [!] til merkis mitt nafn vnder skrifa [!] 1687 þann 17 September finnur þorarinzson m.e.h." It has not been possible to identify these persons.
  • Mylar sleeve inserted in between the last leaf and the back flyleaf. Contains small fragments apparently in the hand of Jón Erlendsson.
Plain (later)
A former cardboard binding with a table of contents on the front is kept with the manuscript. The table of contents does not include Þjalar-Jóns saga and Flóvents saga, the stories that were once catalogued as Addit. 18 fol. Now the manuscript is bound in a modern standard BD-binding with "AM 179 fol.".
