How and when it came into their possession is not known, but they were most likely the commissioners
of it. In 1865, two years after the death of
Jacob Grimm in 1863, the German government bought his library and gave all
the manuscripts to the Königliche Bibliothek, now Deutsche
Staatsbibliothek - Preußischer Kulturbesitz.
